CAMP KNUTSON VOLUNTEERS SPRING MEETING 2011 The Spring meeting of the Camp Knutson Volunteer was called to order at 2 p.m. on June 1 by President Bonnie Benson. This is the 10th anniversary of the volunteer program which started in 2002. Bonnie introduced Rob Larson, Camp Director, who welcomed the volunteers to another season at Camp K. Rob gave a brief synopsis of the coming season. The counselors arrived on May 31 and were ready for a new season. There will be 1200 staff and campers here for during the next 13 weeks. Bonnie welcomed the volunteers and highlighted the volunteer events for the summer. It is the 25th anniversary of the quilt auction on August. "Night under the Stars" July 16; Taste Luncheon on September 15. Kate Williams, assistant director, welcomed the volunteers and told the volunters how grateful she is to have their support which rounds out her staff. Jake and Allie will be the liaison counselors to the volunteers this season. For new volunteers, Kate went over the instructions of what to do when you arrive at camp for a volunteer duty. All volunteers must fill out a volunteer form for Kate for insurance purpose. Kate asked that when volunteers arrive at Camp they need to check in at Pauly's Place to get their name tag and find out where they will be needed. She then introduced the new volunteers. There will be orientation on June 8 for those volunteers meeting the Angel Flights. Minutes from the Fall meeting were read and approved. Treasurer Gail Peterson gave her report and asked members to pay their $10 dues and sign up for volunteer opportunities. The dues help cover incidental expenses,supplies for Kathy Morgan's beading program and the web site expenses. Income last year included $72,000 from Night under the Stars (225 attendees) and $7,000 from the Taste Luncheon (202 attendees) Joel and Kristi Kramer, Lakes Area Gallery, have sold $700 in jewelry made by the campers and $680 in Camp K cookbooks. Stop in their store in Town Square and tell them how much they are appreciated. Web Demonstration: Jean Jones demonstrated the new Camp Knutson website. Currently the volunteer needs, minutes and bylaw are on it. As Jean demonstrated to us, she asked how it could be made even more effective. An e-mail blast has been created for quick and easy communication to members. Jean would like to hear from members. Send updates to Jean Jones. We will save time, postage and paper. The website will include volunteer address book, calendar of events, cleaning and volunteer needs. New members can fill our information and will be included in the address book with password "Kids need us" The Calendar of events is interactional and check out the message board. Click on"start a new topic" and create your own user name and password. The new bylaws were presented to the members. Each article was explained to the members, a vote was taken on each article and all articles passed. Please see the website for the the full version of the bylaws. New Business: Kathy Morgan will again by working with the campers making jewelry. Anyone interested in helping with this project should attend a training session on June 15, 9-11:30 or June 15, 1-3 p.m. Classes will be on Mondays, starting June 20 through July 25. If a volunteer is interested in making any of the jewelry for this personal use, for $5 you can make you project and the money will go to the camp. Night Under the Stars tickets go on sale June 1. Laurie Nelson will be in charge of tickets this year. She asked for assistance in seating the guests the night of the event. Karen Christopherson volunteered to help Laurie. Jean Jones offered to send Thank You's following the event. Sara Egan represented the auction committee report. The committee would like any donations to be in hand by June 27. A list of auction items will be sent to the volunteers before the Night Under the Stars (NUTS). The auction committee will be storing the donated items in the rectory of the old Catholic church in Cross Lake. If you have any items to donate, drop off time will be Wednesdays 1-3 p.m. at the rectory starting on June 8. The website will also post new auction items. When dropping off donations, please complete 2 donation forms, one will be submitted with the article and the other form will be sent to the donor. The next auction committee meeting will be June 15 at the rectory. The auction committee is in need of help for setup and checkout the night of the event. After all $75 dinner tickets for the evening have been sold, $25 tickets will be available for the silent auction only. The invitation for NUTS is a picture of a quilted wall hanging which will be auctioned off that night. Taste Luncheon will be held at the Crosslake Lutheran Church on September 15, 11:30 to 3 p.m.. Two hundred tickets ($25) will be sold for the event. The price includes the cookbook. Last year's profits of $7,000 was used for new bunks, lever door handles and a new defibillator. Submit your recipes to Kathy Brodin by June 7. The recipe will need to be prepared by the donor or other volunteers. Volunteers needed - Sharon Elmquist and Linda Gates need help gardening on Wednesday 8 a.m. - Heart camp needs volunteers and chairperson for card making. - Election committee needs volunteers to recruit people for office - Yarn is needed for finger knitting classes at Pauly's place.
